MISSION

Black Artist Collective (BAC) is a safe space for creatives of color. BAC is dedicated to supporting, documenting and showcasing the artistic and cultural contributions of Black artists and cultural workers in Syracuse, New York. BAC endeavors to play an essential role in the lives of emerging and established artists by helping build the resources, networks, and capacity of its richly diverse membership. We work towards “Art as: Advocacy. Intervention. Interruption.”

VISION

Art as: Advocacy. Intervention. Interruption.

DEI STATEMENT

BAC strives to close the multitude of equity gaps related to the sociocultural and economic impact of the arts as it relates to historically marginalized communities in the greater Syracuse area and Central New York region. Our organization fulfills this mission by offering professional development classes and workshops instructed by artists in the collective, creating opportunities for art and culture workers to share their talents and sell their work, organizing Black Joy community events, and advocating for the safety and creative freedom of Black and Brown folk. BAC is a steadily growing arts and culture organization that has to date served 3,000+ people in person and virtually. Following our mission we have helped cultivate a network of Black and Brown artists and culture workers, amplifying underrepresented voices and making our community less siloed and more collaborative. We are intentional in creating community platforms that allow local artists to navigate their careers and expand upon their talent, continuing meaningful collaboration within Syracuse and the greater CNY region.
